You might think being part of Her Majesty’s Secret Service between 1995 and 2002 would be enough government duty for Pierce Brosnan. But he’s decided to sign back on again, albeit without the licence to kill this time. Brosnan has joined the cast of The Coup, which already features Owen Wilson.
A couple of weeks ago, word broke that Wilson would be making a return to action drama filmmaking, signing on to play a family man who has to help his family when they move to Southeast Asia and get caught up in a violent struggle between the government and rebel forces.
As for Brosnan’s exact role? We’ll leave the explanation to producer Steve Alexander, who released a statement picked up by the Hollywood Reporter: "Having Pierce step into the role of a mysterious and ultimately heroic government operative is the perfect compliment to Owen's everyman dilemma. We're thrilled to have him on board.”
Devil director Erick Dowdle wrote the script with brother Drew and aims to kick off shooting this October. The producers will be at the Cannes film market this year drumming up rights sales and more financing, so having Brosnan attached should help open a few wallets.
