A new Quentin Tarantino project is always something to look forward to – especially one with an ensemble cast boasting Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Tim Roth, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Timothy Olyphant, Damian Lewis, Michael Madsen and more. But as intriguing as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood sounds, some have had reservations about how the film will approach the Manson Family murders subject matter – worries compounded by the decision to release the film on the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate’s death.
Now the film’s release date has moved, which is a positive for two reasons – firstly, it no longer coincides with the date of Tate’s murder, and secondly fans will now get to see it two weeks earlier than expected. The new US release date for the film is 26 July 2019, though the UK date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Tarantino has previously stated that the Manson murders aren’t the main focus of the film, claiming: “It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969” — though Robbie will be playing Sharon Tate.
The first image from the film was recently released, showing DiCaprio and Pitt in costume. The former plays Tate’s actor neighbour Rick Dalton, with the latter as his stunt double Cliff Booth. The film is currently in production, with the shoot set to continue through the autumn.
