Because he's not already busy with several films (including Marvel's Thor: Love And Thunder) and TV series, Taika Waititi is also part of the team putting together new historical comedy/pirate adventure Our Flag Means Death. For the lead in the show, Waititi is reuniting with one of his regular collaborators, Rhys Darby.

Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the story of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a well-to-do gentleman farmer and child of wealth who suffers a midlife crisis and becomes captain of Revenge, a pirate ship in the early 18th century.

The series, will will screen in the States on HBO Max, was created by David Jenkins, who will run the show alongside writer Garrett Basch and producer Dan Halstead. Waititi will act as executive producer and direct the pilot.

This marks the latest collaboration for Darby and Waititi, whose friendship goes back to the days of Flight Of The Conchords. The actor is part of the cast for Waititi's next film to appear, Next Goal Wins.
