Having made strides as the first woman of colour to direct any part of a Star Wars film – in this case second unit on, The Rise Of Skywalker, Victoria Mahoney is now in talks to take her career to the next stage, a solo directing gig on a big studio movie, in this case, graphic novel Kill Them All.
James Coyne is writing the adaptation of Kyle Starks' title, which according to The Hollywood Reporter is a love letter to 1990s action movies. It follows a betrayed murderess on a revenge campaign and a hard-drinking former cop who team up to take down a crime lord. Their nemesis rules from atop a 15-story Miami high-rise, so the duo must go floor by floor cutting through assassins, murderers, Luchadore gang bosses, ex-boyfriends and office workers. Sounds a little bit like The Raid to us. Stark's book began life as a Kickstarter project before Oni Press swooped in to publish it.
Mahoney, who began her career acting in small film roles and Tv, made her directorial debut with indie pic Yelling At The Sky, and has since gone on to make episodes of shows such as Power, American Crime and Ava DuVernay's Queen Sugar. That led, via DuVernay suggesting her to JJ Abrams for his most r recent Star Wars entry, and she's since gone on to handle and episode of the series he's producing with Jordan Peele, Lovecraft Country.
