Robert Rodriguez returned to the kiddie-friendly action genre this past Christmas with We Can Be Heroes. It now appears he's ready to revisit where he started with younger audiences, as Skydance Media has him rebooting the Spy Kids franchise.

Originally launched in 2001, Spy Kids starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez, who have to help their parents (played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) when they're kidnapped. Oh, and there's also the small matter of having to save the world, too... That first film launched a franchise and that's something that Skydance – which acquired the rights to make a new film from Spyglass Media, which will stay attached as a production company.

Rather than handing it off to some random new filmmaker, Rodriguez will write and direct the new movie, squeezing it into his schedule somewhere around finishing work on The Book Of Boba Fett for Disney+ and making a Heroes sequel for Netflix.
