Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, pairing up with Jason Statham, to drive cars and punch people. Can you really ask for anything more from a film? A giant prehistoric shark, perhaps – but that aside, there’s plenty to get excited about with Hobbs And Shaw. The Fast & Furious spin-off is teaming Johnson’s bulked-up agent with Statham’s lean-and-mean (and then not-so-mean) former villain on their own adventure, sans Vin Diesel and co. And while it may have caused a rift in the rest of F&F family (insert swig of Corona here), Johnson seems as enthusiastic as usual to report that the film has started shooting today.

The actor took to his Instagram feed – where else? – to share a shot of Statham chatting with director David Leitch (of Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and John Wick fame) standing in front of a ludicrous-looking souped-up car. “DAY 1 and the evolution has officially begun,” he wrote. “Long awaited Fast & Furious spin-off movie, #HobbsAndShaw is electric. My partner in heavy crime & fun @jasonstatham is lookin’ like $1million bucks and holdin’ it all down. Our visionary & bad ass director @davidmleitch (just directed Deadpool2) at the helm and ready to evolve the franchise in exciting and fresh new ways […] Keep crushing on that set boys... the man known as “HOBBS” will touch down in London in two weeks. Pancakes, tequila and ass kickin’s on me.”

Little is known about the exact plot of the film, but Idris Elba has been cast as the villain – just another reason to be very excited for this one. We’ll get to see the film when it revs its way into UK cinemas in August 2019.
