Though he has occasionally ventured away from the horror genre, the lure of scary stuff still haunts Exorcism Of Emily Rose co-writer / director Scott Derrickson. He’s been drawn inexorably back into the genre for a new potential project, making a deal to direct spooky police thriller Beware The Night.

Derrickson will also be re-writing the script, which finds a cop investigating strange phenomena including possession, exorcism (no shocker as to why Screen Gems targeted Derrickson for this job) and werewolves.

According to The Wrap, Mark Wahlberg was offered the lead, but he’s decided not to join the film, which is a co-production with Jerry Bruckheimer’s company and Disney.

Derrickson has been busy recently, working on the script for West Memphis 3 drama Devil’s Kno****t and signing on to remake Dutch horror thriller Two Eyes Staring. His most recent gig was found footage pic Sinister, which stars Ethan Hawke and will arrive in our cinemas on October 5.
