If ever there was a script that **Empire **wanted to see made, it was high concept assassin thriller Gemini Man. Sadly, it appears destined to end up on the development scrapheap, but the most recent director to take a crack at getting it made, Joe Carnahan, has now put up his proof of concept sizzle reel. Take a look above.

Gemini Man first pinged its way on to our radar back in 2003, whereupon we named it as one of the 12 greatest unproduced scripts in Hollywood. And that was after it had already been floating around the place for several years.

The plot follows an NSA agent getting a little long in the tooth for the job, who discovers that he’s been targeted for assassination. And the twist? The assassin is a younger clone of the agent himself.

Through the years the likes of Sean Connery, Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis have either been attached or considered for the project, and Darren Lemke, Jonathan Hensleigh and David Benioff worked on script drafts. Curtis Hanson seemed to get closest to directing it back in 2009, but it never quite took off.

Carnahan wanted Clint Eastwood to play the role of the agent, and cooked up a stylish look at what he was going for using clips blended for an old Clint/young Clint mash-up. Now we REALLY wish he’d gotten to make this.

And talking of projects that Carnahan has put online, this follows him showing the world his tone plan for Fox’s Daredevil reboot, which you can see below.
