Sigourney Weaver

In space no one can hear you scream — but back here on terra firma they certainly can. And sci-fi fans will be doing just that with the news that Alien queen (but, crucially, not the Alien Queen) Sigourney Weaver is reportedly heading for a galaxy far, far away. Yes, as first reported by The InSneider and then confirmed by THR and Variety, the xenomorph busting genre legend is in talks to join Jon Favreau’s hotly anticipated upcoming Star Wars movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Expected to shoot this June in California, the MandoVerse movie —  eyeing a 2026 release — is set to become Star Wars’ first big screen outing since 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker. Favreau has written and will direct the film, on which he’ll also serve as producer alongside usual suspects Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. And whilst we haven’t heard anything about the plot of this one just yet (presumably it’ll be about, well, the Mandalorian… and Grogu), if the season finale of Ahsoka is anything to go by, then an epic face-off with a certain Grand Admiralsurely awaits.

As for the Sigourney Weaver of it all, it would be foolish to even speculate upon her part to play in the continuing adventures of everybody’s favourite reformed bounty hunter dad and his adoptive alien son at this stage. But even the mere prospect of Weaver kicking some Outer Rim ass (that doesn’t sound right) is enough to have us hyped. No stranger to a sci-fi or two, Weaver has already fought off facehuggers in the Alien franchise, run with the Na’vi in Avatar and The Way Of Water, served as the NSEA Protector’s communications officer in Galaxy Quest, and been possessed by the Gatekeeper of Gozer in Ghostbusters. We’ve no doubt she could handle a blaster, lightsaber, darksaber, or quite frankly just about anything the Star Wars universe might send her way.

We’ll tell you more about The Mandalorian & Grogu just as soon as we hear anything. But in the meantime, High Republic hijinks in buzzy new series The Acolyte are mere weeks away, Skeleton Crew and Andor S2 will be here before we know it, and we’re taking the rest of the day off to debate Ellen Ripley’s midichlorian count. This is the way!
