Even given the cinema closures and audience worries during the pandemic, there have been some successful movies in the last couple. But it took the MCU to deliver a true blockbuster, as Spider-Man: No Way Home crossed the $1 billion mark globally just 12 days after it was released.

As of today, the movie is at $1.05 billion, making it the third-fastest film to reach that mark, after Avengers: Infinity War and the top title holder Avengers: Endgame, which managed the feat in five days.

The feat is all the more impressive since No Way Home managed it without a China release. Despite a big second-weekend drop in the States, the movie remains at the top of the box office, with little competition from the likes of The Matrix Resurrections, which took in $22.5 million across five days Stateside, though that, of course, is also available via HBO Max in the US, while Spidey is theatrical only. The latest Matrix movie has made $69.8 million worldwide so far.
