That Tom Holland does love to keep us all on his toes, doesn’t he. The MCU’s Spider-Man actor might be known for spilling secrets all over the place, but when it came time to announce the title of Spider-Man 3 (no, not the Sam Raimi one, but the follow-up to Spider-Man: Far From Home), he trolled us all. The actor last night shared a title treatment on his Instagram, indicating that the threequel will be called Spider-Man: Phone Home. Except, at the same time, co-star Jacob Batalon shared the title Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker. And an hour later Zendaya posted, er, Spider-Man: Home Slice. Clearly, none of those were real.
But now, we have the official title: the third MCU Spidey film is called Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it arrives this Christmas on the big screen. The title reveal came with a funny little social video, with Holland, Batalon and Zendaya leaving director Jon Watts’ office, complaining that they were all given fake titles for the movie. Check it out here:
And it ends with a gag-packed whiteboard brainstorming all kinds of potential titles, from ‘Home Alone’ (“copyright issues!!”) to the much-rumoured ‘Home Sweet Home’ (“gross”). So what does No Way Home tell us, as a title? Well, there’s plenty to guess at. For one, there are all kinds of rumours that this entry is going full Spider-verse, with reports that Jamie Foxx’s Electro (from The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock (from Spider-Man 2) are among the players here. And there are those – for now unsubstantiated, nowhere-officially-reported, denied-by-Tom-Holland – rumours that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will cameo in the movie.

But even from what is official, there’s plenty to take from the title. For one, Far From Home ended on a massive bombshell, with Peter Parker being outed as Spider-Man by none other than J. Jonah Jameson (a returning JK Simmons), framed for the death of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. Since he’s likely a wanted man now, and everyone knows his big secret, it’s pretty easy to see why there’d be no way home for poor old Peter Parker – and that’s even before the supposed multiverse shenanigans kick in.
We’ll find out much more when Spider-Man: No Way Home comes to cinemas at the end of this year – and once Jon Watts has finished work on this one, his plate is far from clear. Next up, he’s tackling the Fantastic Four…
