Because it's not enough for one studio to have an anticipated superhero sequel deliver news today, Sony is getting in on the action with an official announcement of the date for the Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse follow-up.

We knew this was coming for Spider-Verse, and the fact that it scored an Oscar in this year's ceremony meant it was even more of a no-brainer. No details were included, aside from the fact that it'll be out in April 2022. Which seems like a lifetime away. Oh, and Chris Miller and Phil Lord added their own tweets, but then we were aware they were staying involved in the films going forward.

We'd expect to see the likes of Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson and Hailee Steinfeld return to the voice cast, but the advantage of Spider-Verse is its broad scope: the story could be anything. And there's still a female character-centric spin-off in the works.
