It’s always been clear that Jason Momoa would be a perfect pick for big burly action on screen – but in the likes of Aquaman and Game Of Thrones, he’s often been set against epic fantasy canvases instead of getting his hands dirty in fast-paced fistfights. His next film, though, is more grounded fare – Netflix’s revenge thriller Sweet Girl, which finds Momoa swapping aqua for straight-up action, with a side-serving of drama. Watch the trailer here:

Momoa here plays Ray Cooper, a devoted family man who vows justice against the giant pharmaceutical company responsible for pulling a potentially life saving drug from the market just before his wife (Adria Arjona) dies from cancer. But Ray's search for the truth leads to a deadly encounter that puts him and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in harm’s way, Ray’s mission turns into a quest for vengeance in order to protect the only family he has left.

Brian Andrew Mendoza is in the director's chair here, and the cast also includes Justin Bartha, Amy Brenneman and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The film will hit Netflix on 20 August.
