With Jordan Peele now busy making his new take on classic twisty anthology series The Twilight Zone, it makes sense that someone would look at the back catalogue of similar British series and think about an updated version of that. So it is with Roald Dahl's Tales Of The Unexpected.
The Ink Factory, which produced the likes of The Night Manager and more recent le Carré adaptation The Little Drummer Girl, has the rights to the show, which was originally fronted by Dahl himself and spun stories that had a more grounded focus than the supernatural or sci-fi themes of The Twilight Zone. It also attracted top talent, with Derek Jacobi, Michael Gambon and Joan Collins starring in episodes. It aired between 1979 and 1988, and was usually based on one of Dahl's short stories.
Writers including The Little Drummer Girl's Claire Wilson have now been hired to come up with new episodes, and while no broadcaster is involved yet, there's certain to be interest in this one given the backers, and especially if Peele's Twilight Zone takes off.
