Though the time between Christmas and New Year tends to be a quiet nether realm for movie and TV news, there are sometimes surprises. Such as Warner Bros. dropping a surprise new trailer for The Batman, which shows more of Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell and Jeffrey Wright. Check it out...

With Matt Reeves in the director's chair charting a new, DCEU-free incarnation of the Dark Knight (with Pattinson in the cowl), The Batman finds our hero in his early days as a vigilante, still figuring out his style and his methods while huge challenges threaten Gotham. Soon, he'll have to wrangle with his family's legacy (as hinted at by Serkis' Wayne family butler, Alfred).

There's also plenty of Kravitz as Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman, here looking to team up with Pattinson's Bruce Wayne (though it's clear they don't always see eye to eye). Meanwhile, Dano's Riddler has his own agenda, and it remains to be seen exactly how Farrell's Penguin fits in.

The Batman will be in UK cinemas from 4 March and you can read a lot more about the movie in the current issue ofEmpire.
