The shadow of Jordan Peele's Us (and, to some extent, Get Out) hangs heavy over the teaser for the new Little Marvin/Lena Waithe anthology series Them, even down to the creepy strings on the soundtrack, certain shots and the presence of Shahadi Wright Joseph. This first season is set in the 1950s, and centres on a Black family who moves from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighbourhood during the period known as The Great Migration. The family’s idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, next-door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them...
Joseph, Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Alison Pill, Melody Hurd and Ryan Kwanten star in the season, which will creep on to Amazon on 9 April. Our only quibble so far? That final image of the spooky whispery character, which puts us in mind of this.
