Political turmoil and protest is hardly a new concept; and we're in the midst of the latest round. But Aaron Sorkin is taking a look at a previous bout of tension, with a famous incident and the legal fallout. Watch the new, full trailer for The Trial Of The Chicago 7.

What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest – including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale – were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

Sorkin has loaded his cast with the likes of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp and Jeremy Strong, so you know the actors bringing Sorkin's words to life will be strong.

Netflix bought the rights to the film from Paramount back in July, and while the studio had been targeting a September release, we won't have to wait long for the streaming service's planned launch: it'll arrive in select cinemas and on Netflix itself on 16 October.
