In the most recent issue of Empire magazine, with those sexy **Tron Legacy **covers, you might have seen director Joseph Kosinski make mention of showing an early cut of the film to David Fincher to get some feedback. Well, it looks like Fincher wasn’t the only person to have input, as Entertainment Weekly is reporting that he’s also sought out some help from one of the most successful brain trusts in filmmaking: Pixar.
Yes, Kosinski and Tron producer/Disney boss Sean Bailey apparently took a rough cut up to Emeryville in March to run it past John Lasseter, Ed Catmull, Brad Bird and Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt, among others. And it wasn’t just notes. With the **Legacy **filmmakers having built in some tweaking time with re-shoots in June, Arndt and Bird collaborated with original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz on some fresh script pages to boost the emotional and theme content surrounding Sam Flynn and co.
“Tron is very much Joe Kosinski’s vision, a vision which is thrilling to me and I hope is thrilling to the fans,” said Bailey, Disney’s president of production. “What I give Joe and the filmmaking team immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a part in it.”
While re-shoots are often a cause for concern, involving the Pixar team can only be a good thing, and surely the sign of a filmmaker confident enough to accept advice from proven experts in the field. With luck, it’ll mean that Tron Legacy has turned into something truly special.
