Bad Neighbours – or simply Neighbors, as it was known in the States – was one of the more successful comedies last year, earning more than $268 million worldwide from an $18 million budget. So wipe any potential look of surprise from your face at the news that Universal is gearing up a sequel{ =nofollow}.

Though the first film ended with Seth Rogen’s married schlub and Zac Efron’s muscular frat goof coming to terms after launching a prank war between houses on Rogen’s quiet suburban street, Neighbors writers Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien have cooked up a new wrinkle for this one.

The sequel will see the frat gone from the house next door to Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne, also back for the follow-up). The couple, busy raising their young daughter, hope that the noisy problems and madness are now behind them, and are dismayed when an even more raucous sorority house moves in instead. To try to solve the problem, they enlist Efron’s Teddy and some of his old frat brothers to fight back.

Rogen is once again producing the film alongside partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, with director Nicholas Stoller amongst those returning to duty for a summer shoot and a planned May 13 US release date next year.
