It’s easy to be so preoccupied with the fact that the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League actually exists (or, at least, that it will do eventually after considerable extra post-production and additional shooting) to forget that it’s arriving in the very near future. The filmmaker has been hard at work resurrecting his original vision for DC’s superhero epic, having left the original production due to a family tragedy and had his take retooled by Warner Bros and director Joss Whedon for theatrical release. This version is four hours long, comprises tons of unseen footage, and is coming to screen in the middle of March – yes, just a month and a half away.

As a slew of new posters confirms, the official release date for Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be 18 March this year, coming to the HBO Max streaming service in the US. Snyder himself shared a trio of new one-sheets for the movie – ‘Fallen’, ‘Risen’, and ‘Reborn’ – all bearing the release date. First up, here’s the Fallen poster, with a moody, shattered Justice League logo:

Next is the ‘Risen’ poster, with a tattered Justice League flag flying out of the top of a pile of rubble. Someone call the symbolism police!

And finally, the ‘Reborn’ poster is a metatextual one – picturing a film reel of the Snyder Cut itself, apparently unearthed amid some wreckage. What could it all mean?

Regardless of how exactly it turns out, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is surely destined to be an interesting cinematic artefact, and will be even more of an exercise in maximalist filmmaking than Snyder’s usual output with its four-hour runtime. But as exciting as it is that the new version is a mere 48 days away, there remains the small matter of how exactly it’ll hit UK screens. HBO Max doesn’t have an equivalent over here yet – with films like The Witches and Wonder Woman 1984 instead being released as pricey premium rentals on VOD. There’s no indication yet of what will happen with the Snyder Cut, or with Godzilla Vs. Kong – here’s hoping we won’t be having to wait long for two of the year’s biggest blockbusters so far to touch down for UK viewers.
