Talk about making an entrance. The announcement that Star Wars fan-favourite Boba Fett was finally receiving his own story – Disney+ streaming series The Book Of Boba Fett – came in the form of a credits sting on The Mandalorian Season 2 finale. After linking up with Mando and Grogu, it was revealed that Boba (now in the form of Temuera Morrison) had flown off to Tattooine with Ming-Na Wen’s mercenary Fennec Shand – storming Jabba’s Palace, killing its new leader (an older, slobbier Bib Fortuna) and taking the throne for himself. And since we now know that the series is arriving at the end of December, we now have a trailer for the long-awaited show.

If The Mandalorian offers up a swirl of Western and samurai influences, there’s a new flavour entering the mix here: gangster movies, as Boba and Fennec make moves in the galaxy’s criminal underworld. “I am not a bounty hunter,” he announces – but his rebrand as a leader who “intends to rule with respect” looks like it doesn’t quite go to plan. Before long, heads are being cracked, and fragile allegiances are crossed.

Here's the show's snazzy new poster.

This series comes from Mando creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni – this time teamed up with Robert Rodriguez, who helmed Season 2’s Boba-centric episode. Filoni and Rodriguez are confirmed to be directing episodes of this series, along with Bryce Dallas Howard – and it’ll be followed up by the long-awaited third season of The Mandalorian, currently in production. Catch the first episode streaming from 29 December – a belated Christmas gift from Boba Fett himself. Isn’t that nice of him?
