Since moving from its original home among YouTube's scripted offerings to Netflix, Cobra Kai has exploded in popularity. It's perhaps not surprising then that, ahead of the show's return to the streaming service for its fourth season, it has been renewed for a fifth, as revealed by the series' official twitter feed.
Cobra Kai, for anyone who doesn't know, picks up the story of 1984 coming-of-age drama The Karate Kid and (so far) its two main sequels. Setting the story in the present day, it finds former karate bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) far from his "glory" days and making ends meet as an apartment handyman. He decides to re-open the Cobra Kai dojo where he was trained, and that grabs the attention of the original film's hero, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). He's now a successful car dealership owner with a family and the two old rivals re-ignite their complicated collision. But it's far from as simple as that, especially when teen characters who orbit around the pair clash in and out of the dojo and karate competitions.
At the end of Season 3, Jonny and Daniel had seemingly put aside their issues and joined forces to take on Johnny's scheming former mentor John Kreese (Martin Kove), who had snatched control of Cobra Kai. Will their alliance hold? Season 4 (arriving this December) will answer that, and showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are already plotting out Season 5, which will likely be on screens next year. Cobra Kai never dies!
