While The Raid's Gareth Evans was the driving force behind TV hit Gangs Of London, he's taking a step back for series 2, though one of his key creative partners, The Hallow's Corin Hardy, is stepping up to become the main director, alongside two new additions.
Hardy is back to handle four episodes, while Marcela Said, whose previous telly credits including Netflix series Lupin and Narcos: Mexico, and American Ultra's Nima Nourizadeh are both shooting two episodes each.
Britannia and Tin Star writer Tim Butterworth has taken over leading the script team for the second run, but lest you worry that Evans has jumped ship, he and co-creator Matt Flannery are still executive producers on the series.
Quite what will happen in the second series (following the typically violent end to the first) remains to be seen, though we can expect more carnage, drama and bloodshed as the various crime outfits battle for supremacy in the capital. "Helping Gareth and the team bring the first season of Gangs Of London kicking, screaming and exploding to life was an invigorating high-dive into the world of cinematic television," says Hardy. "The audience response to Gangs Of London was phenomenal and so it’s an honour to be handed the reigns for Season 2 to continue building our (under)world and get to tell the next chapter of this action-packed and emotional crime saga, which, if you’ve been watching so far, you’ll know, is about to kick off for real."
