Director Craig Gillespie has been very busy. As of today, you can catch his Disney villain do-over Cruella in UK cinemas and on Disney+ (with Premier Access) – and as well as making that major movie, he’s also a series director on Apple TV+’s upcoming series Physical, created by Annie Weisman. This one casts Rose Byrne as Sheila, an ‘80s housewife who becomes hooked on aerobics classes, and then sets off to become a fitness tycoon with a burgeoning workout-tape empire. Check out the trailer, which has just debuted:

If you’ve seen Cruella or I, Tonya, you’ll know Gillespie’s classical cinematic sensibilities, and those seem to be at play here too – the show looks to fall somewhere between I Tonya and Netflix’s sadly-cancelled Glow, as the sweat and spandex gives way to money and power. And it should be a major vehicle for the mega-talented Byrne, who’s long been a screen favourite able to juggle comedy and drama with ease in the likes of Bridesmaids and Spy, the Bad Neighbours movies, and Instant Family.

The series will consist of 10 episodes, running at 30 minutes each – and the first three will drop on Apple’s streaming service on 18 June, followed by weekly arrivals.
