Having helped bring the likes of The Mitchells Vs The Machines, Blue Eye Samurai, Nimona, and the Oscar-winning Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio to our screens in recent years, Netflix has become quite the force in the world of animation. And the streamer got seriously animated yesterday at their Next On Netflix: Animation event in LA yesterday, showing off over 30 new shows and movies heading to the platform in 2024 and 2025. With buzzy projects including Timothy Olyphant-starring sci-fi anime Terminator Zero, the hotly anticipated second season of League Of Legends series Arcane, and Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft among the releases teased at the event, there's plenty to get stuck into. It's hard to even know where to start here — there's Zack Snyder tackling Norse Mythology with 2D animated series Twilight Of The Gods, due later this year; Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem and John Lithgow singing up a storm in Skydance Animation's Alan Menken-scored fantasy musical Spellbound, coming 22 November; Hayley Atwell leading the English voice cast for Ghibli-heir-apparent Studio Ponoc's latest, The Imaginary, coming 5 July; Simu Liu and Craig Robinson's 2025-slated comedy adventure In Your Dreams; the DCU's (that's Dahl Cinematic Universe) The Twits, now confirmed to star Margo Martindale, Johnny Vegas, Natalie Portman, and Emilia Clarke; and is that a band of K-Pop demon hunters in an acid-trip visual fantasia called K-Pop: Demon Hunters? Why, yes it is! And that's just the tip of the animated iceberg.
Beyond all that, there's SpongeBob SquarePants spin-offs Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie and Plankton: The Movie; legacy franchise reinventions like the newly-announced Ghostbusters and Motel Transylvania series; and more adult-orientated offerings such as Mattson Tomlin's aforementioned Terminator Zero, which arrives on the streamer on 29 August.
