The Boys Ending

When Empire caught up with Eric Kripke for this month's issue of the magazine, The Boys' showrunner revealed that he'd already gotten his superviolent superhero series' ending all planned out. "Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens," he shared. Well now we know when exactly that last episode will occur. Taking to Twitter/X earlier today, Kripke confirmed that the battle between Karl Urban's Billy Butcher and Antony Starr's Homelander will come to "a gory, epic, moist climax" with its fifth — and now final — season. Check out the announcement below;

Kripke's announcement comes on the same week that The Boys Season 4, described by Empire's own Amon Warmann as the show's "best season yet", premieres on Prime Video UK. In this latest run of episodes from the R-rated, claret-soaked, and ever-so-sweary satire, The Boys are out to stop not only Homelander, but also Oval Office-bound head-popping super Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit). Whether or not they'll stop fighting amongst themselves long enough to succeed, well you'll have to wait and see for yourself.

Whilst The Boys' end may have just begun however, with Variety reporting that the series' eight-part final season is set to shoot this November, the franchise itself is far from over. Following a successful first season, carnage-filled college spin-off Gen V already has a second season on the way, whilst a mooted Mexico-set take on the Boys Universe from Blue Beetle scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and Gael Garcia Bernal is still in the pipeline, too. As a wise supervillain once sort of said, "You see: series, they come and go, but franchises are forever." Long live The Boys!

The Boys Season 4 makes its three-episode premiere on Prime Video UK on 13 June, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly.
