Colin Firth: Oscar winner, national treasure and quite possibly the world's most beloved man. When The King's Speech turned up at the Jameson Empire Awards the other night to collect yet another accolade, we took the opportunity to ask him about his next film, the Coen Brothers-scripted, Michael Hoffman-directed Gambit. Here's what he had to say.
"It's out there, it's a farce, it's a caper movie, it's not a romantic comedy. And it's rare to read things that make you laugh. I need to do something that does...I think it's a highly intelligently crafted piece. It's been called a remake - I don't quite understand why it's been styled as a remake. The original Gambit was a lot of fun, but really this doesn't resemble it. If you were to change the names of the characters I think you could get away with calling it [original]."
If that doesn't give you the Firth fix you need, keep your eyes peeled for his turn in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy later this year, alongside fellow Empire Awards attendee Gary Oldman. Gambit should follow, if all goes to plan, sometime in 2012.
