Susan Sarandon has been added to the ever more excellent cast of The Lovely Bones, Peter Jackson's adaptation of the Alice Seabold novel about a murdered teenage girl who watches from the beyond as her family struggling with their grief. Sarandon will play the grandmother of the family.

Already in signed are Ryan Gosling as the father, Rachel Weisz as his wife and Saoirse Ronan as the murdered girl. Ronan is fantastic in the upcoming Atonement, so put we can already assume she'll easily be the match of her adult co-stars. Stanley Tucci is also in talks for the role of the murderer.

The Lovely Bones begins shooting in October for a 2008 release.
