Verbinski Plans Online Role-Playing Film

Gore Verbinski turned a Disneyland theme park ride into a box office behemoth, so imagine what he can do with a legitimate source for a film like a news article from the Wall Street Times. But then Verbinski was never one to make it easy for himself, so when he decides to make a film about online fantasy role-playing games, he's focusing on the real-life players, not their online alter-egos.

Yes, his as-yet untitled film will focus on the 53 year-old diabetic chain-smoker behind the game's thriving musclebound entrepreneur, and the effect that playing online games for 20 hours a day can have on one's marriage (in a word: disastrous).

Steven Knight, of Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things fame, will write the script for Verbinski to direct, but there's no word on when that's likely to happen. After all, the director is also attached to a Bioshock adaptation, a remake of Korean monster movie *par excellence *The Host and the still-mooted Pirates of the Caribbean fourquel.
