Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) and Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) are joining forces on a new version of Roald Dahl's The Witches. The book has of course already been successfully adapted by Nicholas Roeg in 1989, with Anjelica Huston memorably playing the Grand High Witch, an infanticidal maniac with the worst case of dry skin you've ever seen.

Del Toro, who already has futuristic thriller Killing on Carnival Row and a potential Hellboy sequel on his slate, is set to write and direct, with Cuaron producing. No date is set for shooting, but Del Toro, who says the film will be "quite smaller [than Roeg's film], but most likely very much designed", has written 70 pages of what will likely be a 100 page screenplay.
